Okay Here It Is

doyouknow

It was belly up, its tail on the left a wing at the bottom and its head is under the wing. When I first saw it I thought it was a dead bird that had somehow been beheaded…it was very much alive though.

This was the next photo I got…preening itself.

Then it was back with its mate exploring and searching for food. Beautiful Mourning Doves. I had never seen them sun like that before. I have seen them take dust baths and that is interesting too.

  4. Those morning doves are such lovely birds.

    • It was a surprise to me too when it unfolded itself and I saw what it was. I love them too.

  5. Haha, like other comment, I still can’t match what it is to the image, either ๐Ÿ™‚ So what it looks like beak is actually a tail? Amazing how the dove managed to get in such position ๐Ÿ™‚ It was fun guessing what it was…and fun surprise to find out the answer!

    • Yes, that is actually its tail. I was in awe at how contorted it was. I am glad you had fun with it. I did too, loved seeing all the guesses.

    • Thank you. There were a lot of doves out there but that was the only one sunbathing and all contorted like that. I was in awe when I saw it unfold itself and get up.

  10. So happy you have identified and given the backstory, Sis. What a great thing to witness and capture. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I was sad when I thought it was a dead bird but when I saw the dove get up I was in awe. I will never forget it. โค

  11. Even after you show and explain, I can’t match what it IS to the first image !

    • I couldn’t believe it was a dove either. I was pretty sure it was a bird though when I saw the wing. I was really surprised when the bird got up and I saw it was a dove. I watched the bird from the time it got up until it went back to its mate. Try to picture the dove in front in the last photo with its belly up in bright sunshine with some shadows.
